Stories of Living with Abuse

Sharing Stories of Abuse Serves a Greater Purpose

The authors of these abuse stories hope to help you learn from their experiences. Their stories of abuse leave me in awe of what evil abusers carry out. Every story is unique but eerily similar to all the others. The common thread is the abuser’s need to control and their willingness to hurt their victims in any way to fulfill that need.

Writing and reading stories of abuse benefit victims in at least two ways:

  • The writer gets the opportunity to speak out about the abuse they’ve experienced. Either signed or anonymously written stories work to encourage the victim to speak up and reach for help from their family, friends, and community resources.
  • The reader sees the similarities between their experience and the one they’re reading. They may think, “If that person calls that behavior abusive, then perhaps it is also abuse when it happens to me!” Realizing the abuse in the relationship, knowing the abuse is real and not your imagination, helps abuse victims move to the next step – protecting themselves from the abuse.

If you are not a victim of abuse, reading these stories will be a real eye-opener for you. They are especially good for the family of abuse victims; they’ll help you to see what your loved one is fighting.
